Tinting And Highlighting

We use only the very best in professional colouring products. Our preferred colour range is Wella, which is the largest producer of professional colouring products in the world. This enables us to guarantee that the colours that we produce are consistent and are of the highest standard. We are constantly developing our techniques; this enables us to offer our customers subtle changes that keep their hairstyles up to the minute and fashionable.
Brazilian Keratin Smoothing Treatment
In order to fully understand how The Brazilian Keratin Smoothing Treatment works, we first need to take a look at another industry - Wool. Most of the Keratin used in hair products is derived from wool. This Keratin is identical to that in Human hair and is perfect for the job. A number of years ago it was found that if wool was treated with Formaldehyde it would become smoother and straighter, making it much easier to use in the manufacture of woolen yarn. It works by something called protein crosslinking. That is, when the wool is stretched straight, the protein chains in the keratin separate, then the Formaldehyde creates a fixed bond that crosses between these protein chains, restricting the wool’s ability to return to its original configuration (curly). It works exactly the same way in Human hair. These crosslinks are stable for around 3 months before the hair reverts to its original configuration.
Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen and is severely restricted for use in cosmetics, the amount allowed is 0.2% or 200 parts per million. This is such a small amount that it would have almost no effect on the hair. So any treatments containing Formaldehyde must contain a higher amount than that allowed by European law. Please be aware that there are systems that claim to be “Formaldehyde Free” some of these contain other equally restricted ingredients such as Glutaraldehyde (almost the same as Formaldehyde) and Glyoxal (a class 3 Mutagen). Products containing these ingredients should also be avoided, as they pose an equal risk to health as Formaldeyde.
The Materials Safety Data Sheet for the product that we use shows that it contains no ingredients that are restricted for use in cosmetics This means that it may not get the hair as straight, but it does get the hair smooth, easier to manage and frizz is almost completely eliminated.
This treatment has no negative effects on the hair, in fact, the hair will feel softer and in exceptional condition following application. As time goes on, the hair’s condition will improve on its own because you are using hairdryers and straighteners less.
After my own exhaustive risk assessment, I am convinced that the products we use do not contain formaldehyde or any other material that is a risk to health, a fact, which has been endorsed by our insurers, who have fully covered the process for use in our salon.

This process can be used on all hair types including bleached and coloured hair, regardless of condition. Afro/Caribbean hair may require pre-relaxing in order to obtain a satisfactory result. Results on virgin hair may not be quite as good as those achieved for more porous, colour treated/pre-straightened hair. Following the application, your hair will be flat and straight and must remain straight and dry for 72 hours.
A shampoo and conditioner that do not contain Sodium Chloride (salt) is required to maintain the process at home. Salt is a desiccant and will dry out the crosslinks, causing them to weaken and release the protein chains, allowing the hair to revert more quickly. You can either find one yourself or we have 3 different types in the salon which are both professional and very high quality products. The price of these products ranges from £8.99 - £13.95.
We are advised by the manufacturers that as with hair colouring, pregnant women should first check with their midwife or doctor before undergoing this procedure.

Yuko System Straightening
YUKO SYSTEM "repair", this unique hair straightening system, was created in Japan as a means of straightening naturally or artificially curly hair without damaging it. Previous methods straightened hair with good results, but it was inevitable - and accepted - that the hair would be severely damaged. The innovative YUKO SYSTEM "repair" however, not only straightens curly or wavy hair, but also has the ability to turn damaged hair back into healthy hair. It makes healthy hair glossier and shinier and offers a hair care menu that belies the accepted truth about straight permanents. It actually restores damaged hair.
Hair can be damaged when the hair cuticles (the outer layer of hair) are torn or when there is a loss of protein from within the hair shaft. This unique new hair care system restores those nutrients to the hair by using a specially designed iron, heated to 180 degrees C to heat seal collagen, keratin, silk protein and other proteins that are naturally present in the hair. Finishing off with Phi-ten treatments, hair is left feeling noticeably healthier and shinier.
Treatments
We offer several deep conditioning treatments from extreme moisture and protein treatments to combined treatments and the Japanese Yuko System Repair treatment, this treatment includes the finishing which is part of the treatment process. Collagen, keratin, silk protein and moisturisers are heat sealed into the hair with the specially designed Yuko hair irons.
